A Collaborative Approach for Working With Western Music

Award-winning composer Reena Esmail and Hindustani vocalist Saili Oak team up to co-teach an intensive workshop where you will:

  • Get an overview of the fundamental principles of western classical music 
  • Receive practical skills for working with western classical musicians 
  • Learn collaborative practices in a hands-on rehearsal process

Topics Covered:

  • Structure, movement, and instrumentation in western music 
  • Basic western classical theory 
  • Ear training 
  • Reading western notation
  • Harmonization

  • Applicants are not required to have any previous training in western music. However, they must have a working knowledge of Hindustani khayal tradition.
